Celebrating Small Wins

Why should we celebrate small wins? I used to ask myself this question anytime my parents or friends congratulated me for something I deemed insignificant- from getting a good grade on a small quiz to finishing a personal project. With experience, I learned that pausing to give myself a pat on the back helped more than it hindered. From improved self-esteem to preventing burnout, I can say that it is worth it. I will share some ways I celebrate small wins.

Accomplishment Planner

Recently, I changed how I wrote in my planner. Instead of writing down what I planned to do, I write down what I’ve accomplished (no matter how small it may be!). That way, if I ever feel unproductive, I have a record to prove how much I’ve accomplished.

Share Your Wins With Others

Texting a family member or friend about what you’ve accomplished can feel cathartic. Even better if you celebrate their small wins too!

Media

Reading a chapter from your favorite book, listening to your favorite song, or watching an episode of a series on your watchlist are all great ways to reward yourself!

Organization

I find that taking a break to organize (my closet, computer home screen, etc.) helps me clear my mind and feel an extra sense of accomplishment.

“Shopping”

My favorite thing to do is to find items online (clothes, accessories, etc.) and put them on a wishlist- it prevents me from spending an excessive amount of money on things I probably don’t need at the moment. What do I do with my wishlist? I either purchase items from it as necessary or send it to my friends/family for gift ideas.
