Highlighting my Favorite Artists: Victo Ngai

Victo Ngai

Victo Ngai is a Chinese-American illustrator raised in Hong Kong. A RISD graduate, she has found success illustrating for a wide range of markets: newspapers, magazines, film studios, books, packaging, and advertisements. She has previously taught at the School of Visual Arts in NYC, the Illustration Academy, and hosts workshops and lectures. She was named in the 2014 Forbes 30 Under 30 List and has won a wide variety of awards, including several gold medals from the Society of Illustrators.

Her work is highly detailed and intricate, highlighted by her use of flowing lines and pleasing balance of organic and geometric shapes. In terms of color, she finds harmony in bold color schemes. Her work feels energetic and nostalgic in her use of textures. While the scenes depicted through her work are oftentimes bustling with detail and life, they do not feel compositionally overwhelming. Rather, it feels as though you can find something new in her work every time you revisit it.
